  • I am not really sure I follow the logic of this Popular Mechanics article that believes the growing popularity of social networks are going to mean the end of search as we know it. As the first commentator notes, most people that work for a living (not in a related tech field) just don’t have time for them. I sure don’t.

The New York Times reports today:

The political season continues to be very good to CNN, which will officially announce on Tuesday that for the first time since 2001, it managed to beat the Fox News Channel in prime time for one quarter of the year in the category of news viewers most desirable to advertisers, according to Nielsen. Thanks to its debate coverage and heavy focus on the presidential primaries, CNN’s ratings in prime time for viewers 25 to 54 were up 90 percent, to an average of 453,000 for the first quarter of 2008. That was enough to edge past the perennial leader, Fox, which had 438,000 viewers, up 12 percent from last year.

A couple weeks ago there were a number of reports that Yahoo! was planning to join Google’s OpenSocial application platform. Well not only has Yahoo! thrown their support behind the platform, they are also, along with Google and MySpace, forming a new non-profit organization called the OpenSocial Foundation. It is modeled after the OpenID Foundation.

This is really good news across the board. Very good news. The press release of this announcement with more details is here.
